The things people actually ask.

Can you see my traffic?
No. Your devices build direct WireGuard tunnels to your own home anchor, and your traffic exits onto the internet from there. Our infrastructure introduces peers and relays encrypted packets only when a direct connection can't be made โ€” it never holds the keys to read what's inside.
What if my home internet goes down?
Your anchor goes offline and your travelling devices notice immediately. You choose the behaviour per device: fall back to the local connection, or hold everything with the kill-switch until the wire is back.
My home is behind CGNAT with no port forwarding. Does it still work?
Yes โ€” that's the normal case. Peers find each other through our relays and NAT-traversal, so you need no static IP, no open inbound ports, and no cooperation from your ISP's router.
Which devices can be the anchor?
Anything that can route and masquerade: Linux, a Raspberry Pi, Windows, macOS or an OpenWrt router. Phones and tablets join as clients โ€” they can't forward other devices' traffic, so VirtualWire won't let you assign them a routing role by mistake. See the table above.
Is this just another Tailscale?
The mesh underneath is the same open WireGuard lineage. VirtualWire is the layer on top built for one job โ€” anchoring your home IP: opinionated exit-node setup, zero-touch enrollment, split-tunnel and geo rules, and a control plane you can run yourself. It's a product, not a toolbox.
Can I self-host the whole thing?
Completely. The control plane, relays and clients are built on open components. Run them on your own VPS and your data never touches our servers โ€” the hosted plans just save you the ops work.
